Optoseven joins EU H2020 research
Optoseven is a partner in an EU H2020 project titled ‘MercOx‘ developing measurement methods metrology for monitoring and control of mercury (Hg) in gas emissions and in the atmosphere.
Currently, traceable measurement methods exist only for elemental mercury. Such monitoring capabilities must, however, also include oxidised mercury species to meet the requirements of EU regulation and the implementation of the international Minamata convention.
Mercury can seriously harm human health and is a particular threat to the development of foetuses and for young children. By providing comparable measurements of Hg species in emission sources and in the global atmosphere the accuracy of models that predict the Hg concentrations in fish, for example, will be significantly improved.
